A Tribute to Leonardo DiCaprio's Headband

Let's all take a moment and appreciate Leo's hairstyle choices. Namely, the majesticalness that is the Leoband*. That's right. I'm making it a thing now. He has sported this style since his teenage years. That's commitment.

About "Freaks and Geeks"

Whilst browsing Netflix trying to find something to fall asleep to, I decided to turn on Freaks & Geeks. I mean it couldn't be all that exciting--after all, it was cancelled after one season and was set in 1980. 

I couldn't be more wrong.

I sat up for the next three hours obsessively watching one episode after the next, until I decided to call it a night at four in the morning. With a cast including the likes of James Franco, Jason Segal, Seth Rogan, Busy Phillips, and Linda Cardellini, Who wouldn't want to watch? The answer back when it aired in 1999 would be: Not too many. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the executive producer is Judd Apatow.  This show was ahead of its time. It deals with real issues masked by dark humor. It's nothing pretty to look at, even James Franco's character, Daniel Desario, is a scraggly and greasy haired punk with alluring brown eyes and mischievous smile. It's hard to have good style during that 70s-80s transition phase, though. I will admit, I have been looking for a good army jacket to buy a la Lindsey Weir. 

So here I sit. I finished the series in three days. I bought Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused because that's how I feel. (Led Zeppelin is a big part of the show) I remembered seeing an article in Vanity Fair about a Freaks and Geeks reunion. Luckily, I still had the magazine and was thrilled when I discovered that Judd Apatow was the guest editor. Here's a link to the article for the curious. 


I think it was the honesty that the show exhumed that allowed for such a cult following. Viewers actually feel something for the characters and the situations they are going through and you could tell that the writers cared for these characters immensely. The story lines were real and it wasn't like anything else at the time. Freaks and Geeks showcased good acting, writing, music, and every other element that a good TV show should have. Now, we are left with vapid filler programs such as Keeping up with the Kardashians and unoriginal network series. Both of which I refuse to spend my free time watching. If do have some time to spare and wish to fill it with something substantial, then go and watch this show. I promise you won't regret it.
